Welcome to our 15th Annual Academy Awards Pool! We’re so far behind this year, it’s embarrassing. So let’s get right to it. Those familiar with the website will find it much the same. To access the site this year, you’ll need to enter the username “awards” and the password “statuette". So get those forms in quickly, and good luck!
Overview
Fill in the form, picking one nominee from each category. Categories are assigned different point values. For each correct prediction, the point value of that category will be added to your score, which will then determine the winners. The entry fee is $5. The entry with the highest score will receive 60% of the pot. Second place will receive 30%, and third place will receive 10%. In the event of a tie, the total number of categories guessed correctly, regardless of point value, will be used to determine a winner. If a tie still remains, the tiebreaker question will then be used. If the tiebreaker question cannot resolve a tie, the following will occur. In the event of a two way tie for first place, both tied for first will receive 45% of the pot, and third place will receive 10%. In the event of a three or more way tie for first, the pot will be evenly distributed between the entries tied for first, and no other prizes will be awarded. In the event of a tie for second place, the winner will receive 60%, and the remainder of the pot will be evenly distributed among those tying for second. In the event of a two way tie for first and a two or more way tie for second, the two tied for first will receive 45% of the pot each, and those tied for second will split the remaining 10%.
Deadlines
The deadline this year for all submissions is 12:00 Noon, PST on Sunday, February 24th, the day of the ceremony. Received is defined as in Dominic or Amanda’s hand. Upon receipt, we will call or E-mail to notify you that your entry is in. Though the online form hasn’t given us much trouble, there has been a glitch or two in the past, so be certain that you get a response from us. Fees may be cash, check, money order or PayPal, but a returned check will invalidate the entry. Entry forms and fees need not be sent at the same time, but both must be received before the deadline for the entry to be valid. As usual, entries received after the deadline may sneak in if I haven't yet posted the picks spreadsheet, but won't be guaranteed. Particularly this year, since there isn’t a whole lot of time in between the deadline and the ceremony to get the picks posted (We’ll be putting them up almost immediately).
Entry Form Instructions
Fill in your name and phone number. Clearly mark one selection from each category. If you do not make a selection in a category, you will not receive any points for that category. If you mark more than one selection in a category, you will not receive any points in that category. If you do not fill in the tiebreaker question, you will automatically lose a tiebreaker to any entries with the tiebreaker filled in.
Posting of Entries and Results
The official Academy Awards Pool website can be found at www.academyawardspool.com, where you can download a form in MS Word format, or you can fill in the online submission form. Also, we can accept PayPal payments via the website, but please note that we cannot accept PayPal payments that are funded with a credit card. If you have any questions on this, just let us know. Otherwise, mailing your payment will, of course, be fine. Owing to the late start, we’re foregoing the running tally of the pot value and will simply post the final awards once all of the entries are in. During the ceremony, the standings will probably be updated live after each category is announced as in years prior, but if something slips through the cracks, that’s going to be it. Stay tuned. Either way, results will go up immediately after the ceremony. Then, a day or two later, we’ll post a wrap-up with some stats and random awards.
